The worksheets give constant review so that the children are in continuous review of skills and concepts. By the end of the year the children will have covered addition and subtraction to the hundred thousands place; multiplying three-digit factors by two-digit factors; division with a two-digit divisor; writing remainders as fractions; fractions: equal fractions, reducing fractions, mixed numbers, adding and subtracting mixed numbers; measuring time to the nearest minute; measuring length to the quarter inch; measurements are done in metric and English methods.

READING (Bob Jones 3A & 3B) – The student texts, Once Upon An Open Book and Not So Very Long Ago, deepen reading skills and comprehension while reinforcing godly character. The student work-text offers comprehension emphasis and phonics practice. The stories build reading comprehension, phonics skills, and an understanding of different literary genre. The character building stories demonstrate biblical truth and timeless virtues.

LANGUAGE (Bob Jones) – English 3 for Christian Schools covers writing skills as well as grammar. The curriculum starts off with a grammar unit and then alternates to a writing unit. This procedure is followed throughout the year. Writing skills include letters, a persuasive essay, study and reference sources, how to use quotes, writing book reports, poetry, and research reports. Each grading period the children memorize a poem and recite it before the class.

CREATIVE WRITING – A variety of resources are used in creative writing. Creative writing includes daily journaling of at least one paragraph as well as weekly story writing of two or more paragraphs. Resources include McDonald Publishing Co., Evan-Moor Publishing, Frank Schaffer, and Instructional Fair.

SPELLING (ACSI Spelling Grade 3) – Spelling strategies include a phonetic approach to decoding and encoding words. Each lesson also contains two words that can not be learned phonetically. The curriculum considers spelling a critical literacy skill that strengthens reading and writing skills.

Map Skills are taught throughout the semester.
